About us

Amazon Trip Peru is a family-owned tour operator based in Cusco, founded and run by a native guide from Manu National Park. We organise rainforest expeditions to Manu National Park and the Tambopata National Reserve, birdwatching trips and tours to Machu Picchu, with guides and crew from the native communities of the Peruvian Amazon.

Founded in 2018 by a Matsiguenka guide from Manu

Our founder and general manager, Percy Huanca, was born in Manu National Park into a Matsiguenka family and grew up there. He worked as a native guide in Manu before founding Amazon Trip Peru in 2018, and he still leads many of our Manu and Tambopata expeditions himself. Together, our team brings more than 15 years of field experience in the Amazon.

Why Percy started Amazon Trip Peru

Percy wanted to create more work for the native communities along Manu National Park and Tambopata. That is why we hire guides, boat drivers and captains from these communities: they know the forest better than anyone, and tourism gives their families a stable income that does not depend on hunting or logging.

Part of that work goes back to the communities through projects for self-sufficiency, education and reforestation with native trees such as cedar, ceiba and Brazil nut, and through support for children from native communities who study in their own language.

How we run our tours

• Small groups: our groups never have more than 10 people, and we also run private tours.
• Native guides and crew: the people who show you the rainforest grew up in it.
• Community lodges: whenever possible we stay in lodges run by or working with native communities.
• Clear prices: every tour shows its price per person, and you can book online with a deposit of $60 per person for tours up to 5 days or $100 for longer tours. The balance is paid at our Cusco office before departure.
• 100% Amazonian: Amazon Trip Peru is a locally owned company with no outside shareholders.

• Manu National Park and Tambopata tours, from 3-day trips to 8-day expeditions to the Manu Reserved Zone.
• Birdwatching tours, from a day at Huacarpay Lake to the Manu Road.
• Cusco, the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu, to combine with the rainforest in a single trip.
